The Saturday Tutoring Program provides free tutoring for
students in grades 1-12 from school
districts throughout Greater Cleveland.
The program was founded in 1990 as a partnership between the Church of the Covenant and John
Hay High School. Since then, the program has grown to serve approximately 200 students per
semester from 21 school districts. Sessions are held at the Church of the Covenant on most
Saturdays during the school year.
Over 600 volunteer tutors, who are of diverse ages and backgrounds, come from the Church of the
Covenant and dozens of colleges, high schools, civic organizations, and the community at-large.
They patiently help students with their academic work and provide a compassionate listening ear,
all in an environment of mutual learning and respect.
The Saturday Tutoring Program is an example of how a church can serve as a catalyst for
strengthening the community by involving the community. For more information, please visit
